One of the most stressful and unexpected occurrences that a person can go through is theft. The theft of a vehicle can leave one without transportation as well as a loss of items inside the vehicle exposing them to all sorts of problems. Rest assured that there are several well-known devices that can protect you and your vehicle from predators.
Low Jack
Low Jack is a device that can be put inside the body of the car. This device uses tracking capabilities to alert authorities where your vehicle is once it leaves your possession. If your car is stolen, the low jack device is turned on allowing your car to be tracked and found. Whilst this device can help with the recovery of a vehicle that has been stolen before it can be stripped, destroyed or sold it doesn’t actually prevent the theft of the vehicle.
Wheel Locks
There are cases where thieves steal a vehicle to strip it for its parts, and some of the most wanted parts of a vehicle are its wheels. One antitheft device available is wheel locks. These devices are installed onto the wheel making it difficult or impossible to remove the wheels of a vehicle without the proper key. As well as preventing the wheels from being stripped from the vehicle this device can also prevent the vehicles initial theft.
Steering wheel lock
This device is an easy and very inexpensive way to protect your car against theft. This device is simply a metal bar that extends to fit the circumference of your steeling wheel and locks into place. Once the device is locked it makes it impossible to turn the wheel of the car. These types of devices have been around for years and typically cost anywhere between $25 and $50. Check with your insurance carrier to see if this device can result in cheaper car insurance for your car.
Ignition Kill Switch
A more expensive approach will allow for your car to become disabled completely when trying to be stolen. A kill switch, which is installed on the ignition of the vehicle, is a device that is designed to cut the engine off in the event that the car is being stolen. These switches recognize when the vehicle is being accessed without a key or “hotwired” and within a few seconds disables the engine. Seen on television shows, some devices are appropriately designed to lock the thief in the car making it difficult for them to escapes before help arrives.
Alarm
Last but not least, an easy deterrent for a car thief is a standard alarm system. This device which is installed on the vehicle makes an extremely loud noise when access to the car is gained through improper use. The alarm sounds alerting people to the location of the vehicle, and forcing robbers to run in the other direction.
There are several ways to get cheap car insurance by way of anti-theft devices. Obtaining one or more of these devices can help reduce the risk you may have for car thieves to steal, strip and/or sell your car leaving you without transportation and possibly a big bill or high insurance premium.
